Membership and Membership Categories
- Corporate Member: a company who by qualification operate within the recognised wavebands of the Association employing qualified Spa Therapists with the capability to perform the spa treatments and routines. Such members are entitled to vote and are covered by the Association insurance.
- Spa Therapist (full membership): a therapist who holds a recognised diploma covering all the recognised spa skills needed in Spa’s within the range of wavebands. Such members are entitled to vote and are covered by the Association insurance.
- Associate Member: spa owners, specialist category therapists, companies whose business services cover the specific needs and skills of the spa industry. Not entitled to vote. Not covered by the Association insurance.
- Honorary Membership: by election bestowed upon established members of the profession who serve the spa industry within specialist or specific skills.
The Association may introduce further categories of member if and when the need and time be appropriate for the needs of the profession and/or the Association.
All applications for membership must be written and signed by the applicant.
- The Council of the Association maintain the right to uphold the standards stated in the rules, and given in the objectives and/or ethics of the Association.
- The member will have notification in writing from the Association of any discrepancies.
- Any member may resign from the Association by giving notice in writing to the Association. The member will not be entitled to any unexpired portion of their annual subscription.
- In the instance of any dispute or grievance the matter may be referred to the Chairman of the Council, so that the situation can be investigated, and the standards given in the Wave Bands upheld.
Finances and Accounts
- The funds of the Association will be raised by subscriptions (by all category members), investments, donations and bequests.
- The Association’s financial year will end on 31st December each year.
- The date of the Annual General Meeting will be fixed to take place after December and before April the following year.
- All subscriptions are due for payment on 1st January each year. New members may be accepted for part of a year by arrangement with the Council.
- A member who has not paid the subscription three months after the commencement of the membership year will be removed from the membership list. The member may be reinstated on payment of the arrears and an administration fee.
The accounts of the Association will be audited by a qualified accountant.
Administration
The management of the Association will be undertaken by the Managing Council. The management may co-opt such specialist members thought to be advantageous to the administration of the Association.
The management hold the right to appoint specialist members to form and act for the Association on committees and/or work parties.
The Council will consist of between 8-12 members. Each Council Member will sit for a maximum of 3 years before re-election.
Officers: The Council will elect officers as follows: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Press Officer, Secretary.
Delegates
The Association is empowered to appoint and send a representative to other bodies who are, or might be, associated or affiliated with BISA, so as to report by attending meetings, seminars, etc., that are of special interest and value to the Association.
Members meeting
The Association will hold two Members Meetings a year for the purpose of information and professional advancement.
Standards
The Association reserve the right to visit and/or inspect all Spa premises with prior agreement on a regular basis in order to maintain the standards and ethics of the Association.
